Traditional European Advent markets often close December 23 or 24. For travel after Christmas, favor Québec City, Banff, Vienna, Copenhagen, or New York and verify the exact attraction calendar before paying a nonrefundable rate.
Treat snow as a promise only where it is defensible
Banff's mountain snow and Québec's late-December winter conditions are the strongest bets in this group. Vienna, Munich, Copenhagen, and New York can be magical without snow; do not build a child's expectations around a white city Christmas.
Alternate wonder days and recovery days
One headline outing, one warm food break, and one flexible experience is enough. Winter clothing, early darkness, holiday crowds, and unfamiliar beds drain children faster than a normal city day.
Book the scarce pieces first
Prioritize family lodging, ski school, holiday meals, major shows, and timed seasonal events. Leave markets, lights, public skating, and neighborhood walks flexible around weather and energy.
