Plan for 12 children

An editorial worked example, not a tested capacity or venue quote. Includes the birthday child; count attending adults separately. Adapt to your guests and check product labels.

Run the activity
Three teams of four; give each team one clue envelope, 12 paper resource tokens and 6–8 empty boxes. Teams collect resources, build a small tabletop shelter and explain it. No Minecraft knowledge or screen required.
Quantities and materials
Prepare 36 paper resource tokens, 3 clue envelopes, 18–24 clean small boxes, 3 glue sticks and 12 badge sheets. One shared 40-marker box is enough for three trays; ordinary crayons also work.
Space and adult roles
One adult explains and runs the quest; one handles arrivals, food and the quiet station. Allow each team its own build surface with walking space between teams. Keep exits clear.
Buy, borrow or skip
Cardboard and paper are the activity essentials. The 16-place Minecraft kit is optional styling; supply cups and cutlery separately. Skip extra table covers if the kit already covers your table. LEGO is optional and not needed for this plan.
Budget assumptions
Example allowance: $65 snacks/drinks, $25 cake, $20 tableware/decor, $20 activity materials, $10 buffer = $140. Assumes reused boxes, tables and markers; add adult refreshments and venue costs separately.
