Plan for 12 children
An editorial worked example, not a tested capacity or venue quote. Includes the birthday child; count attending adults separately. Adapt to your guests and check product labels.
- Run the activity
- Three teams of four design an invention on paper, make a cardboard model and give a one-minute pitch. This plan uses no chemical experiments.
- Quantities and materials
- Provide 12 sketch sheets, 3 clean boxes, 3 glue sticks, paper scraps and 3 marker/crayon trays. Offer pre-cut shapes and adult help with cutting.
- Space and adult roles
- One adult supports making and one handles arrivals and food. Test materials first and keep craft supplies away from snacks.
- Buy, borrow or skip
- Borrow markers and boxes. Demonstration kits or visiting entertainers are a different plan: choose age-labeled materials and obtain a provider quote.
- Budget assumptions
- Example allowance: $65 snacks/drinks, $25 cake, $20 tableware, $20 craft supplies, $20 buffer = $150. Venue, adult food and science entertainers are extra.
